Valais Blacknose Sheep Upbreeding Program at Wing & A Prayer Farm

In 2018, Tammy White realized a dream-come-true when she was able to add the Valais Blacknose upbreeding program to Wing & A Prayer Farm. The approval of importation of Valais Blacknose semen to the U.S. from New Zealand meant that foundation ewes in the U.S. could be laparoscopically artificially inseminated to produce lambs with pedigrees going back to Swiss origin. The first two ewes to come to Wing & A Prayer Farm were Dolly & June, both Teeswaters that had been inseminated and then ultrasounded to show they were carrying twins. The ewes had their ā€˜F1sā€™, 50% Valais Blacknose, 50% Teeswater, on March 30 of 2019. Johnny & Jolene, Dilly & Danny were the first Valais Blacknose sheep to be born in the state of Vermont. From then on, our farm has been up-breeding and was able to birth embryos in 2021 and 2022 to have 100% Valais Blacknose genetics, in addition to the F1s, F2s, and F3s that are already part of our flock.

We do sell sheep and only entertain serious inquiries. If you email Tammy at hello@wingandaprayerfarm.com, she will send you a Livestock Application Form to fill out and will answer your questions.

We know that this program is very expensive to embark on, and now that there are more choices since 2018 to purchase Valais Blacknose lambs, and foundation ewes, we are very strict about not placing animals in a situation where they will not thrive, nor that the Valais Blacknose breed will not have the best opportunity to grow and build in the U.S. In our few short years of owning them and raising them here in New England, we have learned how they are best thriving. We want this breed to be a flourishing breed of sheep in our country and want the best start for them.

If you are interested to purchase Valais Blacknose Sheep from our farm, please fill out the Livestock Application Form and email it to hello@wingandaprayerfarm.com.
